Irritability, anxiety, stress, discontentment, anger, fear, doubt- are a few of the “little sins” we tend to sweep under the carpet and hope to forget about. The truth is, they may be hidden but not forgotten; at least not by God. He sees the personal, intimate things that no one else can break into.
Just a few ‘trinkets’ caused the ‘anger of the Lord to burn against Israel’, in Joshua 7. “Neither will I (the Lord) be with you anymore, unless you destroy the accursed from among you” (v. 12). Later we learn that indeed there was one individual named Achan who gathered a few ‘souvenirs’ from the spoils of their enemy and had them “hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent” (v.21). You can read the rest of his history in the remainder of Joshua 7.
“For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known.” Luke 12:2
We learn that NOTHING, not even the “little” sins are hidden from God. The hidden things will be brought to light. In God’s self-giving and long suffering love towards His children, He gently desires to expose those sins (great or small) in our lives and heart, to restore our soul to a healthy relationship with Him. Why?
“Your iniquities have separated you from your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.” Isaiah 59: 2
You see, Jesus came to this earth to deal with us personally about our sin, He’s still alive today and His mission hasn’t changed. “He who covers his sins will not prosper, BUT whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy” Proverbs 28:13.
We as His beloved, have access to bridge that gap. “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” Hebrews 4:16. His mercy towards us offers every human freedom from the bondage of sin. Are you hiding something from the Lord today? Take a moment and offer it up to him, even now.
“For the death that He (Christ) died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6: 10-11
No matter what you face today, what you faced yesterday or what you will face tomorrow. ONE thing is certain: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine or nakedness, or peril, or sword?… In all these things we ARE more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing (including us humans) shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:35-39
My prayer is that you, and I will be yeilded to God- our Creator- with a repentant heart seeking restoration, healing, and His abundant love today.
