Help my unbelief.

When Jesus arrived at the scene, though the disciples wasted all their effort trying, the unclean spirit was causing a mere child to convulse, foam at the mouth, and even at times throw his body in fire or try to drown him in water. From childhood, this young boy was tormented by something within. No matter what anyone tried to do to help, it only caused the pain and out-of-control tendencies to continue.

ENTER Jesus. “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Mark 9:23. There the wearied father confesses “Lord, I believe, help my unbelief.” With the authority given to Him by God, He commands the spirit to come out of him, and enter him no more. Instantly this boy is healed from the tormenting affliction he’d endured his whole life.

But why couldn’t the disciples cast out this spirit? Jesus replied to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting” Mark 9:29.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places..” Ephesians 6:12

You see, the disciples weren’t READY for the battle, and we find Jesus graciously teaching them that some diseases require different remedies. For this, the only remedy required one to draw near to the heart of God through fasting and praying. Even so in our own lives, is there an ongoing battle that you’ve been faced with since forever ago? Perhaps this is your prescription.

Remember, when Jesus cast out the spirit, it was no longer allowed to enter the child again. Complete victory.

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil….” Ephesians 6:10-18
