She Maintains: Time Management & Priorities

Often we get overwhelmed at the thought of all the things that we need to accomplish, but we don’t necessarily know how to tackle those to-do’s and maintain a healthy lifestyle. So you might find yourself eating dinner at 11pm and going to bed in the wee-hours of the morning, in the effort to accomplish everything or (in some cases) just merely catch up! This cycle can be grinding and can really cause you to deteriorate from the inside out – Not to mention severely affect your spiritual walk with God. If you’re stuck in this cycle, I pray God helps you to find the right balance and prioritize the important things in life.

The P31 woman has a few things to note regarding how her time was spent:

12: She does him good and not evil, all the days of her life. (Her days are filled with serving and blessing her husband, because he is a priority.)

15: She rises while it is yet night, and provides food for her household, and a portion for her maidservants. (Rises before the hustle to make sure she has a moment to herself and cares for her family. Also, note that she had maidservants to help her!)

18: She perceives that her merchandise is good, and her lamp does not go out by night. (She is up late wrapping up things that need to completed)

25: Strength and honor are her clothing, she shall rejoice in time to come. (Her heart attitude is covered with supernatural strength from the Lord to be able to serve in this capacity.)

27: She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. (She isn’t lazy and even in down time, she is watchful and vigilant.)

The word time is used 612 times in the Bible. Time is finite and important where it is being invested, just like our money. We each can be busy in the hustle and grind of the day-to-day tasks, but finding the right balance and prioritizing what is important are essentials for daily Christian living.

For those who are busy:

Being careful to prioritize tasks and judge what is important and finding the right balance in life takes work, but I am confident the Lord will lead you and show you! We have a great example and story of one who was busy ‘doing’, but not necessarily doing what was #1: Needful for that time #2: With the right attitude of heart

Take a look at Luke 10: 38 – 42 (The infamous story of Martha and Mary!)

Quick observation of he text:

  • Martha welcomed Jesus and His buddies into her home.
  • Jesus sat and was sharing with the group.
  • Martha was absent, rather in the kitchen and about the house serving.
  • Scripture uses the word ‘distracted’ to describe her with serving.
  • She then complained to Jesus.
  • Jesus reveals that she is both worried & troubled over many things.
  • Jesus points out her need, using Mary as an example

What do we learn from here?

  • There is a time to ‘do’ and time not to’do.
  • Being distracted from the primary focus of Christ, makes us unproductive and leads us to comparing with others and ultimately a complaining attitude.
  • The constant focus of ‘doing’ causes us (like Martha) to be worried and troubled.

God’s promise is that He will lead us: Psalm 23. Even through the rough valley lows, He leads and guides us! How encouraging is that?

For those who aren’t so busy all the time. Redeem the time and Don’t be lazy! Did you know the word ‘lazy’ is found 16 times in the Bible?

  • Proverbs 6:6-9 “Go to the ant you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise…How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep?
  • Ephesians 5:16 “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead and Christ will give you light. See that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”

We’re to be mentally & spiritually aware and alert:

  • 1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
  • Mark 13:33 “Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son but only the Father. Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming- in the evening , at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning- lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to all: watch!”

We’ll be posting a few time management tips next! Pray you are considering these and asking the Lord to grow you in this area!
