A season of drought.

Just thinking of the Florida summer weather lately. It appears that no matter how many “thin” layers of clothes I have on, I still “glisten” profusely- I know you do too, I must say its very lady-like:)  We have been blessed lately to have rain here in Gainesville. I normally wouldn’t pay much attention to how much rain we have, but I have been effected by the outpouring of rain, with the consistent routine of weekly lawn mowing! But what would it be like to not have rain for a season? There would be drought! “A period of dry weather, an extended shortage” as defined by dictionary.com. Have you ever experienced a season of “shortage” in your spiritual walk? (Good reference in Exodus 9-13ish.)
Hardened and unfruitful soil, glazed over by the burning summer sun that scorches the very existence of any life – is what I call- drought. It’s difficult to confess, but I admit I frequently find my heart in this place. All it takes is a simple change in circumstance or situation, and you will find your spiritual walk strained and your physical walk stressed. As women (you would agree), we carry enough emotional stress without any outside factors. Carrying burdens, issues, or circumstances on your shoulders result in “complications” with our relationship with Jesus. Let me encourage you to examine the condition of your heart today.
Begin with this profound cry for cleansing found in Psalm 139: 23-24..
“Search me O God and know my heart; try me and know my anxieties, and see if there is any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.”
If this is heartfelt, then according to the scriptures we can find peace and safety in the season.

“The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthen your bones; you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.” Isaiah 58:11

“For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yeilding fruit.” Jeremiah 17:8

Are you anxious, fearful, unsatisfied in your walk with the Lord or in your life? Perhaps your heart is in a season of drought? The scriptures above are God’s promises for all those who believe in Him and are Born Again. Allow Jesus to wash you in the water of His Word and replenish all that is lacking in your spiritual life to present you without spot or wrinkle, holy and without blemish to Himself [Ephesians 5: 26-27].
I’ve pondered, fought through, wept and grasped in desperation over this subject. When drought occurs in a believer’s spiritual life, often a sense of defeat comes with it. My sweet sisters, there is no such idea of defeat if you are a born again Christian. Jesus conquered the grave, and no more do we weep and mourn, but we rejoice knowing the battle has already been won for our sake.
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
