Lessons from an (almost) 2 year old

‘You are my sunSHINE, myooonnlllee sunSHINE, you mkeme haPPY, nanana grEY! Youuu nanano DEAR, lalalalove YOU, ahpeas da taaa sssshine wayyyy….’ – Mia Grace (January 2016)

The tiniest voice shouting these words, seem to bring such joy to this mommy’s heart. Watching this little one grow up has been quite the adventure, and looking back I can say with genuine honestly, I have enjoyed every single day. I mean sure, she has some rough days, and so do I, but in the ‘trials’ we both have grown (-ing) to enjoy and flex with life. This song is one of many many songs she now sings at the top of her lungs. And, of course every song has a little dance, the occasional march, shoulder shrug, and hip sway.. you know, a normal dance for an almost-two-year old. She is unashamed. Fearless. Secure. Filled with LIFE…and displays it at any given opportunity. Really.

Grab your coffee and ponder this… David, a man after God’s own heart behaved much like my daughter. Now I am not trying to demean David in any way, but his heart was light, he possessed a fearless confidence and security in trusting in God. We read that he was undignified before the Lord, dancing, and wrote songs galore in the book of Psalms. He loved, feared, found his security and satisfaction in God. The worlds view of who he was didn’t matter. All that mattered was what God thought of him. Can you say the same in your life?

I pray my heart will be steady and find that very same security and assurance I see in the life of David and my daughter… all that matters is what God thinks of me.

David, when bringing the ark of the covenant to the city of David, he sang this song, consider the lyrics for yourself today….

Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim His greatness. Let the whole world know what He has done. Sing to Him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about His wonderful deeds. Exult in His holy name; rejoice, you who worship the Lord. Search for the Lord and for His strength; continually seek Him…. ” 1 Chronicles 16: 8-11
